BCFiRST is born from the recognition that the first responders who keep our community safe often face adverse situations that can lead to post traumatic stress injuries and other challenges. The path back to wellness from these is not always well defined or straightforward. We recognize the importance of making sure that our first responders have access to the support and resources they need to continue the important work that they do.
In 2020, several of our founding members realized that one way they could better support our community's first responders was by providing them with a direct yet confidential connection to a network of licensed mental health professionals who specialize in working with trauma. They partnered with an organization that helped identify and vet local professionals and launched a helpline that year. While that program has been a success there is so much more that can be done. In 2023 those same individuals laid the groundwork for BCFiRST. A local organization dedicated to local first responders.
